90. Single Mussel

“3 times the haem iron of rump steak ”

New Zealand Greenshell™ Mussels are a great source of haem iron (the iron from animals and the most easily absorbed iron form), containing over 3 times the haem iron of rump steak, on a per gram basis.

Of significance in comparing haem iron foods, 100 grams of steamed mussels (6 medium sized mussels) contains 12 mg of haem iron, providing 47% of the daily iron requirement for women aged 19–54 years, whilst 100 grams of lean beef contains only 3.4mg.

Proteins are the necessary building blocks for our muscle tissue and analysis shows that a 100 gram serving of New Zealand Greenshell™ mussels (6 medium mussels) will provide close to a quarter of the daily protein needs for an adult*.

Omega-3 provides vital nutrients required by every cell in the body, crucial for brain growth, visual development, reducing inflammation and helping blood flow through the body.

New Zealand Greenshell™ Mussels are high in beneficial long chain Omega-3’s.

The nutritional benefits of New Zealand Greenshell™ Mussels are also available around the world in an oral supplement form otherwise referred to as Greenshell™ Mussel Powder (or Extract).

This dietary supplement provides relief for joint-mobility and sufferers of the symptoms of joint inflammation, stiffness and pain.

The three key components of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), omega 3 fatty acids (DHA, EPA) and a unique phosphorylated glycogen molecule have all been shown to be important ingredients in promoting joint health.
