2023 Proposed Extension to the Commodity Levies

Aquaculture New Zealand is the sector representative body incorporating mussels, oysters, and salmon in New Zealand. It was incorporated on January 26, 2007 with a purpose-built constitution and sector strategy.

The current levy order, the Commodity Levies Order 2019 allows levies to be paid to Aquaculture New Zealand on all farmed mussels, oysters and salmon and this is due to expire on 13 June 2025.

A referendum is being conducted under the Commodity Levies Act 1990, to determine the support for a five-year extension from 14 June 2025. All potential levy payers (farmers of the three species) are entitled to vote in this referendum. For more information about this proposed commodity levy extension, please click here.

Aquaculture New Zealand has appointed Warwick Lampp of electionz.com as the independent Returning Officer to conduct the voting process.

Postal voting packs were posted to all aquaculture farmers with a valid postal address on the Aquaculture New Zealand database on Wednesday 25 October, 2023.  Farmers with a valid email address will also be emailed their voting details by iro@electionz.com

Aquaculture farmers can choose to return their vote by post or can e-vote online here.  All votes must  be received before 12 noon on Friday 24th November 2023.
